Newcastle's nine game winning run came to a juddering stop at St James' Park on Saturday as they were comprehensively walloped by an impressive Bournemouth side, for whom Justin Kluivert scored a hat trick that took his goals scored tally at Gallowgate ahead of his father Paddy's.

The final two goals were scored in added time, but make no mistake, the destination of the points was never in doubt from the first minute as the visitors swarmed all over a Newcastle side that were as lethargic as the crowd.

It's hard to be too hard on this group of players who have equalled the club's all-time winning record, but there were poor performances all over the pitch today.

Tonali was the notable exception, popping up everywhere, though he had a lot of defending to do today and so few options in possession that at one point he even played a through ball half the length of the pitch - to himself.

Without wanting to dig out individual players, fair to say that Tino had a real off day, while Hall was caught out again and again with long balls over his head.

Isak had no service and never looked in danger of extending his hot streak.

In truth though, it was a tired performance at team level as we were out-fought, out-thought and out-pressed.

We haven't been able to say that often recently, so the key is to ensure it's a one off, and there aren't many kinder fixtures to get back on track than Southampton away next weekend.

This run had to come to an end at some point, and there's so much to admire about Iraola's Bournemouth side that it's tempting to think "rather them than [insert hated team here], but the league is so congested that giving up points anywhere is fraught with danger.

Let's hope that this gives the players a kick up the arse and they show the desire to get back to their recent imperious form.
