Newcastle and Nottingham Forest played out the proverbial game of two halves at St.
James' Park, as we did our level best to throw away a three goal half time lead.
That lead was earned via four goals in 11 minutes after Hudson-Odoi had given Forest an early lead.
The play up until Miley's equaliser was fairly positive without being incisive, but a superb ball in from Hall was controlled by Miley in the box with one touch and dispatched with a second.
Two minutes later and we were in front, Murphy awkwardly pushing a loose ball in with his hip as we started to run rampant down our left side.
Isak was naturally soon in on the act, scoring the best (worst) penalty I've ever seen - a half-hearted Panenka that ex-Newcastle dodgy keeper Mats Selz could only comically push into the roof of the net as he lost his balance.
And a minute later Isak was through again one-on-one and made no mistake to put the game beyond Forest.
Until, that is, we went to absolute pot in the second half.
We couldn't string two passes together, we lost all urgency and invited Forest in again and again.
It took until after the hour mark for them to get one back but that didn't spur us on, and they ran us ragged all half, clawing back a third as we headed into seven minutes of stoppage time.
Despite our very best efforts to shoot ourselves in the foot, we just held on, and for all the justified panic around the second half performance, there's no doubt this was a huge win against the team that might be our best hope of reeling in for a top five finish.
